I did a complete panel upgrade in 2014 that included the G500. The decision to upgrade to the G500 TXi was not easy. The G500 worked flawlessly, but the new display has an increase in resolution of about 40% over the legacy displays and it shows. The menu system was also updated to conform to all of the other Garmin recent products beginning with the Aera 796. As with those products, system operation is intuitive and a desired operation is achieved much more quickly than with the legacy unit. After using the G500 TXi for a number of months, I decided to add the Garmin GCU 485. This Controller makes an already good product even better, as it is not necessary to use the display to control altitude, altitude preselect, vertical speed preselect, baro setting, CDI, or GPSS modes. In 2019 I added the GFC 500 autopilot with envelope protection. Combined with the GTN 750 it will automatically fly VNAV profiles for enroute and terminal descent. In 2020 I upgraded the GTN 750 and GTN 650 to the Xi Models. With the new software Smart Glide has been added as an additional feature. I added the Microkit Landing Height System in 2021. In 2024 I added the SureFly Ignition Module (SIM6L) for easier cold and hot starts. What comes next? We shall see...
